BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart Inc. is doubling down on artificial intelligence with the creation of two new executive leadership roles aimed at accelerating innovation and embedding AI more deeply across its operations, President and CEO Doug McMillon announced Wednesday.
In a LinkedIn post, McMillon introduced Daniel Danker as Executive Vice President of AI Acceleration, Product and Design. In this newly created global role, Danker will spearhead Walmart’s AI transformation strategy and oversee all product management and design functions across the company.

“Artificial intelligence is changing how we work,” McMillon said. “This window of opportunity to apply AI and become even more tech-powered, while still being people-led, is unique.”
The retail giant is also creating a second new position, EVP of AI Platforms, which will report to Walmart’s Chief Technology Officer, Suresh Kumar. This role will be responsible for developing Walmart’s intelligent systems architecture, building proprietary AI platforms, and boosting speed, productivity, and innovation across the enterprise.

The appointments signal Walmart’s intent to remain a tech-forward retail leader by investing in AI capabilities that enhance both operational efficiency and customer experience.
Danker, a seasoned tech executive, brings prior experience from companies like Meta and Apple, where he helped lead platform and product initiatives at scale.
Walmart has increasingly turned to automation and AI across the supply chain, store operations, and customer engagement as it continues to blend its digital and physical retail strengths.
