BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart and its Sam’s Club subsidiary have started offering flu shots in more than 4,100 discount stores and warehouse clubs nationwide.
The retail giant said Wednesday that the flu immunizations, which cost $24, will be administered via Mollen Immunization Clinics, one of the largest providers of flu vaccinations in the United States. Customers can visit www.walmart.com/flushots or www.samsclub.com to find specific dates, times and locations for the flu shot clinics.
Walmart pointed out the this year’s flu vaccine will offer protection against multiple influenza viruses this season, including H1N1, the new strain H3N2 and B/Brisbane. New guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend flu shots for everyone over the age of 6 months. Mollen will provide flu shots for children ages 4 and older.
"This year, one shot offers protection against H1N1, as well as two other strains of flu. This will make it easier for our customers to get the preventive care they need, all in one visit," stated John Agwunobi, president of Walmart’s health and wellness division. "We know that families are concerned about their finances, so we are bringing our customers a flu vaccine solution at a convenient and affordable price."
Walmart noted that customers don’t need to make an appointment, and they may also pick up a variety of preventive products, such as antibacterial hand sanitizers, vitamins and supplements.
Mollen conducts a U.S. network of tens of thousands of seasonal clinics, immunizing millions of patients at drug stores, supermarkets, shopping centers, superstores, corporations, schools, governments and a variety of community locations in all 50 states.
