ARLINGTON, Va. — Michael Wysong highlighted pharmacy economics, an expanded scope of practice, and rising health care costs as key priorities as he prepares to take the helm of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores.
Wysong, who will succeed Steven C. Anderson as NACDS president and CEO, said the association will build on the foundation laid during Anderson’s two decades of leadership and use the strategic framework developed by NACDS members to guide its next phase.
“I'd like to thank Steve Anderson for 20 years of transformative leadership and the hard work that Steve put together to build the foundation that we will inherit and refine and build on moving forward,” Wysong said.
Wysong also thanked NACDS Chairman Dave Warner, the association’s board of directors, and its membership for their support.
Looking ahead, Wysong described the current environment as a pivotal moment for pharmacy and pointed to several challenges that NACDS intends to address with retailers, suppliers and other industry partners.
“Together united, we will continue to shape the future of pharmacy,” Wysong said. “I know it’s a pivotal moment, and we can feel that, but with the help of our shared partners and all of our vendors and retailers, we’re using the strategic framework that our membership put together as a guide on how to address the unsustainable costs of healthcare, improve pharmacy economics, expand our scope of practice, and address the challenges that lie ahead with faith, responsibility, and perseverance.”
Wysong closed by stressing the importance of collective action as NACDS enters its next chapter.
“That is our plan, that is our goal, and we will accomplish it together,” Wysong said.
