BELLEVUE, Wash. — OraHealth has introduced XyliMelts for Dry Mouth oral adhering discs, which the company touts as the only remedy that effectively addresses the sleep disruption and tooth decay associated with dry mouth.

The all-natural XyliMelts discs time-release 500 mg of xylitol and oral lubricant xerostomia to relieve dry mouth day and night as well as reduce tooth decay. XyliMelts is the only remedy that effectively addresses the sleep disruption and tooth decay associated with dry mouth.

OraHealth said Monday that XyliMelts are now available online and will be sold at Rite Aid pharmacies in early March.

According to OraHealth, the patented oral-adhering disc technology enables XyliMelts to discreetly stick to gums or teeth, making them ideal for use while sleeping. The company said a recent clinical study published in the International Journal of Dental Hygiene showed that th use of XyliMelts while sleeping significantly improved perceived oral wetness upon awakening in the morning and improved the perceived discomfort for xerostomia.

XyliMelts release a therapeutic level of xylitol into saliva while sleeping, when saliva flow is lowest and the ingredient will stay in the mouth longest before being swallowed, OraHealth noted. The company said the product stimulates saliva; coats, moisturizes and lubricates the mouth; freshens breath; works for night-time dry mouth caused by breathing through the mouth; and can be used with CPAP machines for sleep apnea.

The company added that many medications cause dry mouth, as do increasing age, mouth breathing while sleeping, use of CPAP machines, certain autoimmune diseases like Sjogren’s syndrome, and radiation therapy.
