MINNEAPOLIS — Yoplait is rolling out its new Go-GURT Protein yogurt for children to stores in select markets this month.

The General Mills yogurt brand said Wednesday that each tube of Go-GURT Protein has 5 grams of protein per 2.25-ounce serving, two times the protein of the leading kids’ yogurt.

Also a good source of calcium, Go-GURT Protein contains no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners and has at least 10% daily value of vitamins A and D, according to Yoplait. The product comes in eight-count packages and is available in Strawberry Superstar/Mighty Fruit Punch and Berry Extreme/Burstin’ Berry Lemonade flavors.

The tubes are a convenient lunchbox addition for back-to-school as well as a fun afternoon snack, since they are designed to freeze and thaw by lunchtime, Yoplait added.

"Moms want protein for their kids, but to give it to them in a fun way that they can enjoy," stated Ashley Karr, Yoplait Kids associate marketing manager. "We are also excited that all our Yoplait products contain no high-fructose corn syrup. We listened to our consumers and acted."

Go-Gurt Protein has a suggested retail price of $2.99 per eight-pack. It is currently available in the refrigerated aisle of stores in the North Atlantic, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Central Northeast regions. Additional distribution is scheduled for October.
