DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens launched its clinical trials business two years ago as an integral part of its healthcare strategy, to redefine the patient experience, and to increase access, diversity, equity, and patient retention in drug development research. And a few weeks ago the company announced its latest clinical trials partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim.

As Walgreens Clinical Trials continues to grow and make an impact in more and more communities, this week the company celebrated its second anniversary with an event at their Perth Amboy, N.J. location, where it provided the opportunity to meet directly with company leaders who have been instrumental in bringing the program to life. In addition to its consistent growth, milestones, and new partnerships, Clinical Trials is a perfect example of how Walgreens is building on its strengths in pharmacy, trust with customers, and local presence to partner to advance healthcare access.

“Today we are celebrating a huge milestone for the business as we are implementing clinical trials right here at the New Jersey Perth Amboy location. Clinical trials is the backbone for advancements of new therapies, diagnostics and devices. It really is an investigational process that allows patients to come in to be able to be given an opportunity to get on these new novel therapies and diagnostics. But it’s also an opportunity to make sure that these particular diagnostic drugs are safe and effective, before they get approved by the FDA and go into our pharmacies to be dispensed by our pharmacists,” said Ramita Tandon, chief clinical trials officer at Walgreens.
