AARP joins NACDS public education campaign Nourish My Health

Nourish My Health reaches millions of Americans, particularly in regions with high rates of diet-related diseases.

WASHINGTON – The National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced today that AARP has officially joined as a partner in the “Nourish My Health” public education campaign. This initiative, launched in 2023, aims to raise awareness of the vital role nutrition plays in preventing and managing diseases, as well as promoting overall health and wellness.

NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson made the announcement during his remarks at the AARP Global Thought Leadership Conference, titled “Unlocking Health Longevity: A Blueprint for Thriving with Age.”

“Nourish My Health is a key component of our Food is Medicine initiative and other efforts to reduce chronic diseases,” said Anderson. “Chronic diseases are fueling poor health outcomes and unmanageable healthcare costs – especially among the populations as we age.  Pharmacists are experts in chronic disease prevention and management with unique reach and trust across communities. Today, we welcome AARP as a new partner in the Nourish My Health campaign, which empowers people to take action toward better health by reducing their risk for certain chronic diseases.”

Since its inception, the integrated campaign has grown to include partnerships with leading health organizations, such as the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association®, the Food is Medicine Institute at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, and March of Dimes. With the addition of AARP, the campaign is poised to further expand its outreach and impact.

Nourish My Health reaches millions of Americans, particularly in regions with high rates of diet-related diseases. The initiative promotes baseline health screenings, provides healthy food guides and nutrition resources, and supports healthcare professionals in educating the public about disease prevention through diet.

“Nutrition insecurity is a primary driver of poor health outcomes in the United States that, in turn, leads to billions of dollars in direct healthcare costs, lost productivity, and shortened health spans,” Anderson added. “Collaborations between like-minded organizations are an essential part of the solution to improve nutrition and promote better health. NACDS created Nourish My Health as part of our health and wellness innovation platform that leverages pharmacies and retail services from NACDS members to help build healthy communities.”
