Abbott Park, Ill. – The healthcare giant Abbott has launched a powerful new film, Above the Bias, as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding diabetes. The film aims to challenge misconceptions and foster a more empathetic understanding of the condition that affects millions worldwide.

The film highlights the emotional and psychological challenges faced by individuals living with diabetes, particularly the judgment and blame often associated with the disease. Through compelling storytelling, Above the Bias encourages viewers to look beyond stereotypes and recognize the daily realities of managing diabetes.

"How many times have we heard 'That looks like diabetes on a plate' when we're watching a movie, eating at a restaurant or scrolling through social media," said Dr. Susan Guzman, Behavioral Diabetes Institute co-founder, clinical psychologist, and diabetes specialist. "After more than two decades of research and working with people managing diabetes, I can tell you that misconceptions around diabetes take a real toll on people. If we want to help people have healthier lives, we have to recognize where and how bias around diabetes exists and promote a compassionate and fact-based understanding of diabetes."

The initiative is part of Abbott's broader commitment to improving diabetes care and education. The company is known for its innovative technologies, such as continuous glucose monitoring systems, which empower individuals to manage their condition better.

The campaign also encourages people to share their stories and experiences using the hashtag #AboveTheBias to amplify the message of further understanding and support.
