TAMPA, Fla. — Benzer Pharmacy has set up shop in a new state, Georgia, with the official opening of a new drug store in Greensboro.

Along with retail pharmacy services, the Greensboro store offers compounding and specialty medications.

“Whereas the national chain drug stores offer virtually everything from soup to nuts, Benzer Pharmacy, an independent retail chain store, is more of an apothecary, offering only drugs and health care needs, with a strong competitive edge in service,” James Kratzer, pharmacy manager at the Greensboro store, said in a statement.

Benzer noted that compounding pharmacies are becoming more popular because of their ability to provide customized medications that meet patients’ specific needs. The chain’s specialty pharmacy services include medication management programs for people with complex diseases and chronic conditions, including HIV, hepatitis C, dermatological conditions, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis and cancer.

“Both specialty and compounding services allow us to deliver better medication and outcomes for our patients,” added James stated.

Also at the Greensboro location, Benzer will use the Sharps TakeAway Environmental Return System to provide the community a safe, easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of expired and unused medications. “Patients of any pharmacy are invited to safely dispose of unused or expired medications that are in the original container. Benzer is offering this service free of charge,” James stated.

The Greensboro store marks the fourth location that Tampa, Fla.-based Benzer has opened since late last month, with the other three in Pompano Beach, Brandon and Jacksonville, Fla. It now has over 50 stores overall, with locations in Florida, Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Nevada and Louisiana.

The company has projected growth of two pharmacies per month this year, with a goal of having at least 58 locations by the end of the year.

The Pompano Beach store opened at the end of September and is billed by Benzer as a “one-stop center” for prescriptions as well as information about over-the-counter medicines and health and wellness. The store will offer cough/cold remedies, pain relief products and vitamins, among other OTCs.

“This pharmacy is not a convenient store. We are a full-service pharmacy and patient-oriented. We are excited to offer a whole range of services with competitive prices to customers,” commented Nicole O’Connor, pharmacy manager at the Pompano Beach store.

Patients, too, will have access to such services as blood pressure logs, prescription delivery, medication therapy management and free med-pack preparations, designed help those having difficulty remembering to take all of their medications.

“Medication noncompliance is a major reason for readmission to the hospital, especially for patients with chronic conditions such as heart failure and diabetes,” O’Connor noted. “Benzer Pharmacy will help ensure patients obtain, understand and take the medicines that are an important part of their health.”
