Maya Bowie

She had been vice president of marketing at Walmart.

"Trusted, optimistic, accessible and deeply rooted in care, Walgreens is a brand with a meaningful place in people’s lives," she wrote on LinkedIn. "I’m honored to lead marketing for this iconic brand and help define its next chapter."

Starting her third week at Walgreens, she said she can already "feel the momentum."

"There’s something magnetic about what’s happening here, and part of that magic is [chief commercial officer for merchandising, marketing and digital] Rachael Vegas. I’m so honored she recruited me to join a phenomenal group of merchants and commercial leaders she’s brought together, including more than one I’ve worked with before.

"This group is smart, driven, collaborative, quite funny and all care deeply about our teams, all while driving the business relentlessly forward. I’ve loved getting to know my Marketing and Insights team and cross functional and agency partners. So much talent, passion and dedication, and I’m excited about what we’ll build together. I’m also inspired by the direction and energy from the entire executive leadership team here and the clear focus on the opportunities ahead for this incredible company that turned 125 this year."

Bowie called her nearly six years at Walmart "a true master class in retail, transformation, impact, culture, and leadership."

From leading O-T-C Health through the pandemic to four years in marketing across food, consumables, health and wellness, marketplace, OPD, private brands and partnerships, she had the opportunity to lead through tremendous change and growth.

"I’m incredibly proud of the work, the impact, the difference we made for customers, and how much I grew along the way," she said. "Most of all, I’m grateful for the people. I am thankful for all of the associates and mentees who were on my team, I’ll forever be in your corner.

"And also for the broader teams, so many amazing leaders and business partners who challenged me, collaborated, made the work more interesting and fun, and all of you who made this special company feel like a community and for the friendships I know will endure.

"I leave Walmart with enormous gratitude and pride and also step into Walgreens incredibly energized for all that’s ahead."

Bowie started at Walmart as vice president of omnimerchandising in December 2020. Before that she was general merchandise manager and vice president of merchandising and transformation for the Qurate Retail Group.

Earlier, she was vice president of Total Wine & More. Prior that she was vice president and general manager at Sears.
