WASHINGTON – The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) released the following statement Tuesday applauding the passage of H.R. 2964, the Wastewater Infrastructure Pollution Prevention and Environmental Safety (WIPPES) Act in the U.S. House of Representatives.
CHPA publicly endorsed the introduction of its companion legislation (S. 1350) in the U.S. Senate last April after advocating for its reintroduction in the 118th Congress in a letter to House and Senate leaders.
“CHPA applauds today’s passage of a common-sense solution to an issue that has been debated by several U.S. states for some time now,” said David Spangler, CHPA’s senior vice president, Legal, Government Affairs & Policy. “By addressing the non-flushable wipes issue in Congress, we can avoid a medley of differing state laws that would only lead to consumer confusion. This legislation will go a long way in addressing the challenges facing wastewater infrastructure, human health, and the natural environment. CHPA thanks Reps. McClain and Peltola for their leadership on this issue in the House and urges the Senate to swiftly follow suit.”
