SILVER SPRING, Md. — Pharmagen Inc.’s Clotamin multivitamin, for people taking blood thinners, is now available through CVS.com.
Pharmagen announced the new retail distribution late Wednesday. Late last month, the company said Clotamin became available more than 3,000 CVS/pharmacy locations.
Clotamin is formulated without vitamin K to meet the special nutritional needs of people taking anticoagulants such as warfarin. Since it doesn’t contain vitamin K, Clotamin can be taken with warfarin without affecting international normalized ratio (INR) levels, according to Pharmagen.
A common ingredient in many multivitamins now on the market, vitamin K can thicken blood and interfere with warfarin therapy, the company noted.
Warfarin is the most prescribed blood thinning medication in North America and is also known under the brand names of Coumadin, Jantoven, Marevan and Waran. Warfarin therapy reduces the formation of blood clots, which is important in the prevention of heart attacks, strokes, and the blockage of major veins and arteries.
Clotamin also is available via such pharmacy retailers as Navarro Discount Pharmacy and Walgreens.com.
