Hartig Drug rolls out GLP-1 Coordination and Education Program

Aims to help patients find affordable GLP-1 medication options.

DUBUQUE, Iowa — As demand for GLP-1 medications for diabetes and weight management continues to grow, many patients face challenges navigating insurance requirements and high out-of-pocket costs. To help address these barriers, Hartig Drug has expanded its GLP-1 Coordination and Education Program, providing patients with pharmacist-guided support and access to resources that may help lower medication expenses.

The program serves as a one-stop resource for patients prescribed GLP-1 medications such as Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic, Foundayo, and Mounjaro. Under the guidance of pharmacy staff, the patient can review different options that may help lower costs of prescriptions, including Medicare programs, manufacturer savings cards, fixed cash-price options, and patient assistance programs for qualifying individuals.

"If you've been told a GLP-1 medication isn't covered, is too expensive, or you've simply given up trying to get it, we encourage you to stop in and talk with one of our pharmacists. Every patient's situation is different, and we'll take the time to explore available assistance programs, manufacturer resources, and other options that may help you get the medication you need,” said Charlie Hartig, owner and CEO of Hartig Drug Company. “For example, since July 1st seniors who had not been eligible to receive GLP-1 medication may be eligible under the new Medicare Bridge program.”

Unlike many resources that simply point patients toward online information, Hartig Drug pharmacists provide personalized assistance throughout the process—from determining eligibility and initiating prior authorizations to helping patients enroll in manufacturer savings or assistance programs.

The program and its resources are now available at Hartig Drug pharmacy locations. Patients with questions about their prescription coverage or medication costs are encouraged to speak with a Hartig Drug pharmacist to explore available options.
