RESTON, Va. — Kerr Drug plans to deploy Mirixa Corp.’s MirixaEdge Web-based clinical platform to support the delivery of pharmacist-based patient care services, including medication therapy management (MTM).

Mirixa said Wedneday that Kerr, which has been awarded a grant to support delivery of patient care services by community pharmacists, signed a licensing pact to use MirixaEdge and aims to offer MTM services to the City of Charleston, S.C., and Charleston Water Works employees using the application.

Plans call for Kerr to use MirixaEdge to track the progress of employee medication regimens, provide patient educational information and report on outcomes from MTM services.

Offered on a subscription basis, MirixaEdge offers tools to create patient-customized care programs; user-friendly templates for a suite of chronic disease states that speed the collection of data for targeted patients; and enhanced documentation capability to aid in capturing patient care outcomes in support of pharmacy programs, according to Mirixa.

Rebecca Chater, executive vice president at Kerr, commented that MirixaEdge’s programmatic approach to chronic disease management reflects the North Carolina drug store chain’s focus on developing new clinical services.

"In order to ensure consistency of clinical service delivery across our pharmacies, we need a tool like MirixaEdge to provide the framework for guiding an interactive discussion between the pharmacist and the patient," Chater said in a statement. "The MirixaEdge application has the right level of structure, along with disease-specific inquiries, that will be of great benefit to our customers and staff."

Kerr president and chief executive officer Tony Civello stated that the initiative helps further the company’s drive to provide comprehensive, convenient health and wellness programs.

"Our mission is to position the role of the pharmacist and the pharmacy as more than just a dispensing function. Pharmacists have extensive clinical knowledge that should be leveraged by patients to better understand their medications and how to take them," Civello explained. "The MirixaEdge application will help us capture and ultimately measure the value our patients are receiving."
