RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug and Navarro Discount Pharmacy have been approved for reaccreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), a nonprofit standards organization for providers of home health care.
ACHC said Monday that Kerr Drug, which has 90 drug stores in North Carolina, is the first company to be approved for ACHC’s new Community Retail program. Launched in April, the program is designed for retail stores that sell prescription drugs and commonly used durable medical equipment (DME) and supplies to consumers.
"ACHC developed the Community Retail program in response to a need for an accreditation that was tailored specifically to the services and product offerings of a retail pharmacy," Tim Safley, director of DMEPOS (durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies), Rx and sleep at ACHC, said in a statement.
According to ACHC, Kerr Drug has held accreditation since 2009 and has maintained ongoing compliance with the commission’s standards.
"Kerr Drug is honored to work with a great organization in ACHC and is proud to be the first corporate organization to receive approval for Community Retail accreditation," stated Mark Gregory, senior vice president of store operations for Raleigh, N.C.-based Kerr Drug. "We look forward to benefiting from continued relations with ACHC."
Meanwhile, Miami-based Navarro has earned its ACHC accreditation by continuing meeting the organization’s standards and criteria for patient care.
"The commitment that Navarro Discount Pharmacy has illustrated in meeting ACHC standards is indicative of the world-class organization that it is," commented Matt Hughes, business development manager at ACHC. "Navarro continues to employ the highest level of compliance, care and customer service, and we are grateful to have them as our customer."
The nation’s largest Hispanic-owned pharmacy chain, Navarro operates 31 stores in South Florida.
"The reaccreditation process was efficient and easy to follow with the guidance of Navarro’s staff," stated Albert Garcia, executive vice president of Navarro Discount Pharmacy and president of Navarro Health Services. "With this accreditation, Navarro can continue to serve its patients with the highest degree of customer service. We are proud to be reaccredited by ACHC."
