CLICHY, France — L’Oréal is strengthening its partnership with NVIDIA to improve beauty discovery using predictive AI and computational chemistry, marking a major change in how the company creates skincare and cosmetic formulas.
The collaboration combines NVIDIA’s ALCHEMI machine learning framework with L’Oréal’s Research and Innovation ecosystem, enabling scientists to simulate how ingredients behave and interact at the atomic level. This approach allows researchers to test thousands of formulation variables in a virtual environment, significantly speeding up the development process.
According to the company, the AI-powered system can accelerate discovery by up to 100 times compared to traditional laboratory methods, helping to shorten the journey from concept to finished product while maximizing the performance of proprietary ingredients.
The expanded partnership goes beyond earlier uses of AI in marketing and advertising, placing the technology at the center of scientific research and product development. Initial efforts focus on photoprotection and skin tone management, where digital simulations can find the best formulations before physical testing starts.
L’Oréal stated that the initiative aims to create more effective, precise, and sensory products while enhancing efficiency and agility throughout its innovation process.
“Our collaboration with NVIDIA brings a new dimension into our research labs,” said Barbara Lavernos, deputy chief executive officer in charge of research, innovation and technology at L’Oréal. “By applying AI-powered molecular simulation to our most proprietary actives, we are accelerating the development of more effective and accessible products for consumers.”
NVIDIA executives stated that integrating ALCHEMI into L’Oréal’s workflows enables advanced simulation capabilities that can lead to breakthrough discoveries and support the development of next-generation beauty and preventive care solutions.
L’Oréal is showcasing its technology at NVIDIA’s GTC AI Conference in San Jose this week, emphasizing its larger effort to make AI central to future beauty innovations.
