TORONTO — Duncan Mac Naughton has been named chief marketing officer at Wal-Mart Canada. The 47-year-old retail veteran had been executive vice president of merchandising and marketing at Supervalu Inc.

“Duncan has been an integral part of our management team and has helped us lay the foundation for our company’s future success,” says Craig Herkert, Supervalu’s CEO and president.

Mac Naughton previously held key positions with such companies as Kraft Foods Inc., H.E. Butt Grocery Co. and Albertsons Inc. Supervalu purchased Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons in 2006.

Supervalu is reviewing internal and external candidates to lead the food and drug retailer’s merchandising and marketing teams. Until a replacement for Mac Naughton is named, merchandising and marketing functions will report to Herkert, who has extensive experience in that area.

“We have powerful merchandising and marketing teams that give us the ability to leverage national scale while serving local market preferences,” says Herkert, adding that all current business initiatives and strategies will continue as planned.
