Mylan releases generic of Depakote

Mylan Inc. has launched divalproex sodium capsules 125 mg, a medication for seizures. The company said Monday that the product, rolled out by its Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. subsidiary, is the generic version of Abbott’s Depakote Sprinkle Capsules.

The company said Monday that the product, rolled out by its Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. subsidiary, is the generic version of Abbott’s Depakote Sprinkle Capsules.

According to Mylan, divalproex sodium capsules had U.S. sales of about $89 million for the 12 months ended March 31, based on figures from IMS Health.

Divalproex sodium works by affecting chemicals in the body that may be involved in triggering seizures. It’s used in the treatment of various types of seizure disorders and may used together with other seizure medications.
