NACDS elects new officers, board members

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has elected Greg Wasson, president and chief executive officer of Walgreen Co., as the new NACDS chairman and announced the election of other new officers, a new executive committee member and five new board members.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has elected Greg Wasson, president and chief executive officer of Walgreen Co., as the new NACDS chairman and announced the election of other new officers, a new executive committee member and five new board members.

NACDS said Monday that Wasson will chair the association for the 2012-13 term, taking the reins from Bob Loeffler, chief administrative officer of food and drug retailer H-E-B.

"Greg has demonstrated an incredible passion for conveying the value of community pharmacy during his service as a board officer and chairman of the NACDS Political Action Committee," NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson said in a statement. "We look forward to working with him in his new role as chairman of the board in the coming year."

Also elected on Monday during the NACDS Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., were Thrifty White Pharmacy president and CEO Bob Narveson as vice chairman and Rite Aid Corp. president and CEO John Standley as treasurer. Standley also was elected as a new executive committee member.

The newly elected NACDS board members are Anthony Caffentzis, general vice president, business management, retail for Good Neighbor Pharmacy; Mark Cosby, executive vice president of CVS Caremark Corp. and president of CVS/pharmacy; Mark Murray, president of Meijer Inc.; Juan Ortiz, CEO of Navarro Discount Pharmacy; and Frank Scorpiniti, CEO of Katz Group Canada.

NACDS also noted Monday that representatives of leading international retailers were among new attendees to the Annual Meeting this year, including Alliance Boots of the United Kingdom, Implozia Pharmacy Network of the Russian Federation and Sinopharm Group Co. Ltd. of China.
