ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores 2010 Pharmacy & Technology Conference is less than a month away, with this year’s event set to kick off Aug. 28 at the San Diego Convention Center.

NACDS said Tuesday that attendees of the Pharmacy & Tech conference, which runs to Aug. 31, will include more than 130 retail companies, including chain drug stores, supermarkets and mass merchants with pharmacies that combined represent over 80,000 retail outlets and more than $200 billion in annual sales for prescription drugs, over-the-counter products and home health care services.

Three business programs will offer industry presentations from Larry Merlo, CVS Caremark Corp. president and chief operating officer and NACDS chairman; Steve Anderson, NACDS president and chief executive officer; Robert Egeland, vice president of pharmacy at Hy-Vee Inc.; and Douglas Long, vice president of industry relations at IMS Health.

Keynote speakers Dana Perino, political commentator and former White House press secretary in President George W. Bush’s administration, and David Cutler, Harvard University professor of applied economics and an adviser to President Obama’s presidential campaign, will offer perspectives on health care and the economy.

The Meet the Retailer program will provide insights for suppliers on how to go to market with their product or service. Meet the Rx Market is designed to bring together retailers and suppliers for a series of NACDS-arranged 10-minute appointments focusing on new products and services.

And NACDS said the 17 education sessions at this year’s conference will cover the latest on state-of-the-art pharmacy operations, practice and clinical issues, distribution and marketing.

"The NACDS Pharmacy & Technology Conference is a premier business meeting for the industry," Anderson said in a statement.  "The opportunities for attendees are unique, from top-notch programming to strategic meetings with key decision-makers. This is a power-packed three-day agenda that is a must-attend for industry leaders."
