MIAMI — This back-to-school season, Navarro Discount Pharmacy is lending a hand to students in need as well as enabling parents shopping for school supplies to help out the local school district.

In the back-to-school initiative, Navarro also is offering physical exams and vaccinations this month for students.

The South Florida pharmacy chain said Tuesday that its back-to-school activities include cash donations to Miami-Dade County Public Schools and free backpacks filled with school supplies.
"The goals of this year’s back-to-school promotion are to save busy parents time and money, prepare them early for the start of the school year and help out their schools at the same time," Cristy Leon-Rivero, vice president of marketing at Navarro, said in a statement. "We are committed to supporting education and creating a convenient shopping experience for parents."
Navarro is donating 5% of the sales it generates on all back-to-school purchases to Miami-Dade County Public Schools. When paying at the register, parents tell the cashier the name of the Miami-Dade school and the donation will be sent to it. The drug chain also is teaming up with Coca-Cola, which will donate 5% of purchases of its products to the customer’s school of choice.
In addition, Navarro is donating 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to nonprofit groups — Amigos for Kids, Kiwanis and the Centro Mater Foundation — and to the City of North Miami. Each group will distribute the backpacks to needy children.
The pharmacy chain, too, is offering in-store school physicals and vaccines this month in conjunction with Miami Children’s Hospital.
Navarro added that this back-to-school season it’s also partnering with SpendforED, a local nonprofit that links public schools with businesses and the local community, providing them with financial resources. SpendforED’s EDBUCK coupons can be redeemed at any Navarro store.
School and grade-level supply lists, as well as as the top 10 general classroom-related items that parents are usually asked to provide, also are available at all of Navarro’s 29 drug stores in Miami and online at navarro.com/seasonal/back-to-school.html.
