Navarro’s 29th location opens its doors in N. Miami

Navarro Discount Pharmacy has officially opened its new store in North Miami, which marked the Hispanic-owned drug chain’s 29th location overall and first new store in five years.

MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacy has officially opened its new store in North Miami, which marked the Hispanic-owned drug chain’s 29th location overall and first new store in five years.

The North Miami store is due to be followed by two more new Navarro Discount Pharmacy locations in South Florida in the next several months.

Navarro said Tuesday that the 14,000-square-foot store, located on Biscayne Boulevard in the Arch Creek Shopping Center, features its new merchandise layout, new colors, enhanced signage and improved services for customers, including a pediatric pharmacy window for busy parents, free compounding pharmacy services, a free diabetes club for adults and children, and free prescription delivery for all customers.

The retailer added that the new store’s shelves are stocked with ethnic products for the area’s Haitian and Hispanic communities. Haitian products include basmati rice, spices, soda, fruit juices and hair products. Navarro said the store also carries the full line of Madame Gougousse products, a well-known brand in the Caribbean, plus the retailer’s signature products for Hispanics, including Café La Llave Expresso coffee and Fabuloso multipurpose cleaner, as well as popular brands such as Goya, Valentini, El Sembrador and La Fe.

"The opening of the North Miami store is a milestone for the company as we continue our 22-store expansion strategy," Steve Kaczynski, chief executive officer of Navarro, said in a statement.

Navarro said that in the next three to six months two other new stores are slated to open in Homestead and Pembroke Pines, Fla.

More than 200 people attended the grand opening event, including City of North Miami Mayor Andre Pierre, the North Miami City Council and North Miami Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ron Welsandt, according to Navarro. A donation of $5,000 was made to the Florida International University Scholarship Fund, a local college.

The North Miami store’s first 100 customers received a free Navarro reusable bag filled with products, and the grand opening featured free product sampling throughout the day and two-for-one specials on milk, rice and other products. Also on hand was Navarro celebrity spokesman Chef Pepin, who cooked healthy recipes.

In addition, Mount Sinai Medical Center in Aventura conducted blood pressure screenings at the even, and customers received pulmonary screenings and preventive care information on coronary obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The Florida Heart Research Institute also administered cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure and body mass index screenings.

Employees at the North Miami store are required to speak English and Creole or English and Spanish, Navarro added. "Our North Miami store employees are very diverse and come from all parts of the community," stated Glen Lopez, the store’s manager.
