Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy plans to open the doors for its 23rd drug store in early November. The pharmacy chain said Wednesday that the new 4,700-square-foot location will be located on Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Menlo Park, Calif.

BOULDER, Colo. — Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy plans to open the doors for its 23rd drug store in early November.

The pharmacy chain said Wednesday that the new 4,700-square-foot location will be located on Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Menlo Park, Calif., the ninth Pharmaca store in the San Francisco Bay Area, and will employ eight licensed practitioners.

Overall, the Boulder, Colo.-based pharmacy operator, which offers traditional prescription filling services along with  natural and complementary health solutions, has drug stores in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.

Besides expanding its brick-and-mortar stores, Pharmaca also announced a bigger online presence with the addition of 500 new products to its pharmaca.com web site.

Pharmaca said rising interest in natural and alternative remedies led it to expand its e-commerce site to provide consumers nationwide with increased access to such products, as well as a growing educational forum on which consumers can learn about a variety of health conditions and common natural treatments.

Expanded features of the pharmaca.com site include diverse traditional and alternative product offerings, with about 4,500 products ranging from vitamins, supplements and herbs to personal care items, eco-home products and beauty essentials. Pharmaca noted that it’s one of the only sites featuring hard-to-find brands such as Pure Encapsulations, Vitanica and Sanitas Skincare, along with a variety of private-label Pharmaca products.

The enhanced site also offers simpler navigation via an improved search function plus a variety of resources for those seeking informative, educational health and wellness information. Pharmaca said visitors can get real answers to health questions through the Ask A Practitioner and Ask A Pharmacist features. And in the coming months, plans call for the site to include an expanded Integrative Health Center, featuring video, podcasts and articles about a range of conditions and treatments.

"We are thrilled to extend the values of Pharmaca to more residents in the Bay Area with our new store and to consumers across the U.S. through the expansion of our e-commerce site," Pharmaca president and chief executive officer Mark Panzer said in a statement. "Through our distinctive concept, we provide our customers with all of their preventative and treatment care needs, along with health-focused educational resources, aligning nicely with the shifting trend in health care to self-care."
