RxAlly pharmacies to form Part D network

Members of the pharmacy alliance RxAlly are slated to form a preferred pharmacy network for a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan from Smart Insurance Company Holdings Inc.

LEESBURG, Va. — Members of the pharmacy alliance RxAlly are slated to form a preferred pharmacy network for a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan from Smart Insurance Company Holdings Inc.

RxAlly said Wednesday that, as a result of the relationship, it plans to help introduce SmartD Rx, a Medicare Part D plan from Smart Insurance, in October.

Those of RxAlly’s 22,000 member pharmacies who participate in the network will serve as dedicated wellness partners in serving seniors and Medicare beneficiaries, the alliance said.

RxAlly’s members include thousands of independent pharmacies, the national drug chain Walgreen Co., and regional drug chains such as Bartell Drugs, Discount Drug Mart, Kerr Drug, Kinney Drugs, Lewis Drug, Navarro Discount Pharmacy and Thrifty White Pharmacy.

"The network will be designed to meet the ever-changing needs of the current Medicare population, in addition to the 10,000 people who are turning 65 every day, across the U.S.," RxAlly Bruce Roberts said in a statement. "Our member pharmacies are ideally suited to become the trusted health care partners and destinations that seniors and Medicare beneficiaries deserve."

The Smart Insurance Part D plan is awaiting final approval from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

"By teaming with RxAlly and inviting its expansive network of trusted neighborhood pharmacies across the country to form our preferred network, Smart Insurance Company Holdings will be uniquely positioned to play a significant role in shaping prescription solutions for seniors," stated Pritpal Virdee, chief executive officer of Smart Insurance, which provides insurance products and health care solutions for the senior marketplace.

Other regional chain members of RxAlly include Doc’s Drugs, Drug Emporium, Fruth Pharmacy, Hi-School Pharmacy, Hometown Pharmacy, Lifechek Drug, Osborn Drugs, Reasor’s Pharmacy, Sav-Mor Drug Stores and U-Save-It Pharmacy.
