REGINA, Saskatchewan — This weekend, Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Canada’s Prairie and Atlantic provinces are slated to host in-store Spring Beauty Gala events to support Look Good Feel Better, a charity that helps women manage the effects that cancer and its treatment have on their appearance.
The Spring Beauty Gala events will include activities such as skin analysis and makeup applications, along with special draws and raffles. Tickets for the events cost $10 and can be purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart stores.
Five dollars of each ticket sold will be donated to Look Good Feel Better, and the remaining $5 can be redeemed on any cosmetic purchase made at Shoppers Drug Mart during the event.
The funds raised at the beauty events will support Look Good Feel Better workshops offered at 118 cancer care facilities and hospitals across Canada. At each workshop, women with cancer are provided tips and techniques on cosmetic applications, nail and skin care, hair alternatives and cosmetic hygiene to help regain self-confidence, both physically and emotionally, according to Look Good Feel Better.
“Cancer is not just physically painful, exhausting, and debilitating; it affects the way you look and the way you see yourself,” Sherry Abbott, executive director of Beauty Gives Back, home of the Look Good Feel Better program, said in a statement. “The funds raised through this creative Shoppers Drug Mart partnership will go a long way in providing free support to women who are battling cancer and its emotional impacts, what we call the ‘cancer blues.’ “
Through its Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN initiative to improve the health and well-being of Canadian women, the drug chain also sponsors FacingCancer.ca, a companion program to Look Good Feel Better that provides an online community for women with cancer and their support networks.
