Target announces leadership changes

Target Corp. has expanded the roles of some of its top executives, a move that chairman and chief executive officer Brian Cornell said will help the retailer spur its business, fuel its digital transformation and enhance the customer experience.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. has expanded the roles of some of its top executives, a move that chairman and chief executive officer Brian Cornell said will help the retailer spur its business, fuel its digital transformation and enhance the customer experience.

Target said Wednesday that Casey Carl, who has been president of omnichannel and senior vice president of strategy at Target, will assume the role of chief strategy and innovation officer, reporting to Cornell.

Target is also creating a center of excellence under Carl’s aegis to accelerate and strengthen its data, analytics and business intelligence capabilities. That effort will be led by Paritosh Desai in the new role of senior vice president of enterprise data, analytics and business intelligence.

Chief marketing officer Jeff Jones will take on the additional responsibility of leading work in developing the customer experience across all channels and touch points. Jones also will create and lead a new customer-focused center of excellence, which is meant to ensure that the needs and desires of the retailer’s customers are factored into all business decisions.

Meanwhile, Jason Goldberger has been named president of Target.com and mobile. Goldberger joined Target two years ago from Gilt, where he is credited with launching a new Gilt Home site and expanding the business by more than 40%. He also spent eight years at Amazon. Dawn Block has been promoted to senior vice president of Target.com and mobile merchandising.

“Today’s organizational announcements reflect our continued focus on the guest and our goal of delivering an extraordinary experience to ensure that Target not only meets but exceeds our guests’ expectations. With these changes, we are even better positioned to continue to drive the momentum in our business in 2015 and beyond,” Cornell said in a statement.

Target has also promoted Laysha Ward, president of community relations, to executive vice president and chief corporate social responsibility officer. Ward’s expanded organization will include the company’s community relations, global affairs and sustainability teams. She is also responsible for the Target Foundation.

In addition, Target has named John Hulbert as vice president of investor relations. He had been senior director of investor communications.
