MINNEAPOLIS — Next month, Target Corp. plans to offer seasonal flu shots at its more than 1,500 pharmacies nationwide.

The discount store chain said late last week that flu vaccinations are now available daily on a walk-in basis at its 22 Target Clinic locations in Minnesota and its six health clinics in Maryland through the end of the flu season.

Vaccines being offered include flu immunizations for those ages 18 months and older, starting at $24, and a pneumonia vaccination for those ages 11 years and older for $35.

"Target Clinics are a convenient, affordable option for parents looking to keep themselves and their families healthy this flu season," Target senior vice president Keri Jones said in a statement. "By offering vaccinations and the treatment of flu symptoms with no appointment necessary, Target aims to make parents’ lives a little easier."

Target said that beginning September 20, flu shots will be offered at its pharmacies in Maryland. The immunizations will be administered by pharmacists and are available anytime during pharmacy hours.

Through November 30, Target Clinics in Minnesota also are providing screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides and body mass index (BMI).

The retailer said its clinics, too, offer biometric health screenings at an introductory price of $10, a savings of $49.

Target joins a spate of mass retailers that have announced flu shot programs in recent weeks, including drug chains CVS Caremark Corp, Walgreen Co. and Rite Aid Corp. as well as supermarket operators Supervalu Inc., Kroger Inc. and Safeway Inc.
