Walgreens encourages participation in National Prescription Drug Take‑Back Day

Free disposal options available on April 25 and every day, including DisposeRx and mail‑back envelopes for opioids.

DEERFIELD, Ill.—Walgreens is calling on the public to help prevent prescription drug misuse by taking part in National Prescription Drug Take‑Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The national event provides a dedicated opportunity for people to safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medications from their homes.

Customers can find a participating Walgreens location by visiting walgreens.com and using the store locator. On Take‑Back Day and throughout the year, Walgreens offers multiple safe and secure medication disposal options designed to meet the needs of customers in every community.

In addition to participating in National Prescription Drug Take‑Back Day, Walgreens provides free, everyday medication disposal options at all Walgreens pharmacies, including those for opioid medications. Customers can request DisposeRx packets, which render medications unusable for safe at‑home disposal, or prepaid Seal and Send mail‑back envelopes, which allow unused medications to be securely mailed to an authorized destruction facility. These options are available year‑round at the pharmacy counter at no cost.  All collected medications are safely destroyed at incineration facilities registered with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
