DEERFIELD, Ill. — As communities across Northwest Indiana continue recovering from severe August storms that caused widespread power outages, Walgreens has worked to help ensure residents maintain access to essential medications and pharmacy services.
The storms left many residents facing disruptions to daily life, creating additional challenges for those managing chronic health conditions or relying on prescription medications. Walgreens said uninterrupted access to medications has remained a priority throughout the recovery effort.
To minimize disruptions, Walgreens pharmacy teams took proactive steps before outages occurred, transferring pharmacy inventory to protect medication supplies across the district. The company reported that all pharmacy inventory was preserved despite the power interruptions.
“When the outages hit across Northwest Indiana, Walgreens team members worked together to ensure patients remained connected to the medications and pharmacy services they rely on and support broader recovery efforts," said Ryan Myers, district manager at Walgreens. "Being there when our communities need us most is at the heart of what it means to be a neighborhood pharmacy, and we remain committed to helping patients access the care they need throughout the recovery process now and always.”
Walgreens also moved quickly to restore operations, reopening 17 of the 25 affected stores within days of the outages. Pharmacy staff played a key role in supporting patients during the disruption, including transporting medications between stores to help individuals continue receiving needed prescriptions.
In addition, Walgreens teams worked with patients to identify alternative pickup locations and access pharmacy services while some stores remained affected by power outages and recovery efforts.
Myers added that their efforts are aimed at ensuring prescription access remains available as Northwest Indiana residents and businesses continue to recover from the storms.
