BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart and its Sam’s Club warehouse club unit have started holding flu shot clinics in more than 4,100 stores across the country.
The retail giant said the flu vaccinations cost $25 each and are being administered by nurses from Mollen Immunization Clinics, one of the nation’s largest providers of flu immunizations.
"Providing flu shots in our stores is another way Walmart helps deliver access to affordable health care solutions to our customers," John Agwunobi, president of Walmart’s health and wellness division, said in a statement.
Customers don’t need to make an appointment to get a flu vaccine, and they can visit www.walmart.com/flushots or SamsClub.com/healthyliving to find the dates, times and locations for the flu shot clinics. Walmart noted that shoppers also can pick up other products for flu prevention, such as antibacterial wipes or sprays and hand sanitizers.
"We are happy to partner with Walmart again this flu season, and we are committed to helping Walmart customers get their seasonal flu shot in a convenient, affordable way," stated John Roehm, chief executive officer of Mollen Immunization Clinics.
In response to increased state regulations, Mollen is expanding its roster of immunizations beyond the flu vaccine to include the pneumonia, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria pertussis), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), meningitis, HPV (human papilloma virus), and hepatitis A and B vaccines. Several states have expanded their mandates around these immunizations for children and adults, and increasingly these vaccinations are being covered by Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurers, according to Walmart.
Walmart and Mollen plan to offer these additional immunizations at about 800 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations. People can go online to Walmart.com/flushots to preregister for the vaccinations and locate the Walmart stores where they are being offered.
