SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets this week began offering flu vaccinations at its pharmacies and later plans a round of flu shot clinics.
The regional food and drug retailer said flu vaccines are now available at its 120 in-store pharmacies on a walk-in basis and by appointment to people age 18 and older. Weis Markets, too, is offering on-site flu immunizations to businesses and other facilities. The inoculations will be administered by pharmacists trained and certified through the company’s WEISCARE Adult Immunization Services program.
In addition, flu shot recipients will also receive a money-saving coupon booklet valued at $37, according to Weis Markets.
"With our certified pharmacist immunizers, it has never been easier to get a flu shot in a Weis Markets store — walk-up immunizations are now available in our pharmacies and we’re also offering our WEISCARE Adult Immunization services to businesses and senior centers in the communities that we serve," Jeff Maltese, vice president of pharmacy for Weis Markets, said in a statement.
Later in the fall, Weis Markets also plans to host 65 flu shot clinics in its stores. The supermarket chain, which has 164 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia, added that its pharmacies also offer immunization services for pneumonia, shingles, meningitis, tetanus/diptheria/pertusis and hepatitis A/B.
The retailer reported that each year 10% to 20% of Americans get the flu, with 200,000 requiring hospitalization.
