JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. has started providing flu vaccinations in its pharmacies, and members of its loyalty program can get inoculated at a savings.
The southeastern food and drug chain said Wednesday that customers will receive flu shots for the discounted rate of $24.99 when purchased using their Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card.
Winn-Dixie is offering flu immunizations on a walk-in basis as well as by appointment. Customers can go online to set up an appointment using the scheduling tool at winndixie.com/pharmacy. The supermarket chain will administer a regular seasonal flu shot approved for people ages 6 months and older and a high-dose flu shot approved for people 65 and older.
"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people get a flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available in their community," John Fegan, vice president of pharmacy at Winn-Dixie, said in a statement. "With the flu season approaching, our skilled and knowledgeable pharmacists are now able to offer guests quick and easy options to receive the flu vaccine while grocery shopping — either on-the-go or by appointment. This is one of many benefits people will find at their neighborhood Winn-Dixie."
Besides urging customers to get immunized, Winn-Dixie pharmacists are recommending such flu prevention measures as washing hands frequently; wiping down telephones, remote controls and door knobs with disinfectant; and keeping tissues handy to stop the spread of viruses.
Winn-Dixie operates 484 supermarkets, including 374 in-store pharmacies, in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi.
