RESTON, Va. — The Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores plans to roll out a web-based clinical platform that supports enhanced pharmacy services — including medication adherence — to pharmacies across Canada.
Mirixa Corp. said Tuesday that CACDS has signed a 10-year licensing pact to use a scalable, localized version of its MirixaPro solution, which supports and documents standardized, pharmacy-based patient care service delivery.
With MirixaPro, the Canadian pharmacies will be able to more efficiently augment their dispensing with value-added pharmacy services, including medication management, according to Mirixa, which is sponsored by the National Community Pharmacists Association.
The platform also will enable pharmacists to document patient progress, identify medication compliance issues and supply educational materials. That information also can be shared with patients’ other health care providers, in turning improving care, fostering health professional collaboration and optimizing health outcomes, Mirixa noted.
"Community pharmacy in Canada is in the early stages of significant professional practice evolution, and payers are moving to establish reimbursement for these new pharmacy services, recognizing the value in improved patient health and well-being and cost-effectiveness to the health care system," Nadine Saby, president and chief executive officer of CACDS, said in a statement. "To better enable the delivery of these services, CACDS looked for a tool that would help standardize the deployment of clinical pharmacy services across the country through the use of a common technology platform. We evaluated a number of solutions and were impressed with the strength of the MirixaPro platform and the robustness of its capabilities."
CACDS members represent more than 6,200 pharmacies and dispense 70% of Canada’s prescriptions each year.
