Ex-Medicine Shoppe chief joins consultancy

Terry Burnside, the former president and general manager of Medicine Shoppe International, is joining life sciences consulting firm D2 Pharma Consulting.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Terry Burnside, the former president and general manager of Medicine Shoppe International, is joining life sciences consulting firm D2 Pharma Consulting.

D2, which provides its services to pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, said Wednesday that Burnside will serve as senior consultant for executive management and strategic planning.

"I look forward to working with different organizations spanning pharma manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and others," Burnside said in a statement. "I believe my 40-plus years of experience, most at the executive level, can assist organizations of all types that need to address fundamental business issues that drive strategic, financial and organizational decisions."

According to D2, Burnside brings executive leadership in the areas of management recruiting, financial management, operational infrastructure and strategy development. The consultancy noted that his executive experience involves leading senior teams and driving decisions through board of director relationships.

"Terry provides significant senior executive leadership that can benefit many of the emerging organizations we serve. Terry’s proven leadership can assist organizations in developing and driving their strategic and operational goals," D2 principal Dan Steiber commented.

Most recently, Burnside led Medicine Shoppe, the pharmacy franchise operation of Cardinal Health Inc. Cardinal announced late last year that Burnside stepped down from that post and that it appointed John Fiacco as vice president of Medicine Shoppe and Medicap Pharmacies.

While at Medicine Shoppe, Burnside recruited a talented management team, led the development of chainlike programs and services for independent pharmacy franchise owners, and introduced an overhaul of the franchise agreement for current and new drug store franchisees, D2 noted.

He also served in various other executive capacities, including vice president of merchandising, senior vice president of marketing and chief operating officer at Longs Drug Stores Inc. As COO at Longs, which is now part of CVS Caremark Corp., Burnside was responsible for store operations, marketing and merchandising, loss prevention, warehousing and distribution, and new store construction and maintenance, D2 said.

"D2 continues to build infrastructure to best serve our growing client base, which includes many leading and emerging specialty and operational companies" stated D2 principal
Dean Erhardt. "Terry’s expertise can provide executive and strategic insights to emerging and established organizations. His experience can benefit senior management and company boards alike."
