MATTHEWS, N.C. — Jim Trappani, a former CVS merchandising executive, has joined Family Dollar Stores Inc. as vice president of health and beauty aids.

The dollar store chain said Trappani brings decades of HBA knowledge to the retailer.

"Health and beauty aids play a growing and important role to our customer," stated Family Dollar president and chief operating officer Mike Bloom, who joined the dollar chain in late September after a 20-year career at CVS, most recently as its top merchandising officer. "Jim brings nearly 30 years of experience in the HBA category, and through his leadership and supplier relationships we will continue to grow the assortment, perfecting the mix to better meet the needs of our core customer and growing trade-in consumer."

Trappani previously was vice president of consumer health care merchandising at CVS Caremark Corp. He spent six years at the chain drug retailer, leaving the company in late 2011.

At Family Dollar, Trappani reports to senior vice president and general merchandise manager John Scanlon.
