Harris Teeter eyes new pharmacy customers

Harris Teeter has launched an incentive program to lure shoppers to its pharmacy.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harris Teeter has launched an incentive program to lure shoppers to its pharmacy.

The regional supermarket chain on Tuesday began its Rx Punch Card Promotion, in which customers who fill a new prescription or transfer an existing prescription to a Harris Teeter pharmacy will earn a $20 electronic coupon for use on their next Harris Teeter grocery purchase of $20 or more.

Harris Teeter noted that the e-coupon is automatically applied to their VIC customer loyalty card and that VIC card households can earn up to 10 of the $20 coupons during the promotion, for a total of $200 in savings. The promotion runs until April 3.

The food and drug retailer added that its pharmacies also offer the Generic Prescription Savings Club (a 30-day supply of generic medication for $3.99 and a 90-day supply for $9.99), free diabetic drugs, free antibiotics and the 15-minute Prescription Guarantee.

Harris Teeter operates 136 pharmacies in six states, including Washington, D.C., and overall has 206 supermarkets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia.

In announcing the Rx Punch Card Promotion, Harris Teeter also stated that it "accepts all major insurance plans, including Express Scripts." As of the start of the year, Express Scripts was no longer processing prescriptions filled at Walgreens drug stores because of a contract dispute. Other chain drug retailers, including Supervalu food and drug chains and CVS/pharmacy stores, also have made efforts to "welcome" Express Scripts members to their pharmacies.
