GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. — Jim Spencer has been appointed chief operating officer of Kinney Drugs Inc.
The regional drug chain said Tuesday that Spencer, previously vice president of retail operations, will now oversee Kinney’s retail and pharmacy store operations as well as the retail merchandising department.
As COO, he also is responsible for the ongoing development of high-quality pharmacy and retail services, the company noted. He reports to Bridget-ann Hart, president of Kinney Healthcare Services.
"Jim is a results-driven leader who has been a significant contributor to the success of our retail business since becoming part of the Kinney Drugs team," Hart said in a statement. "We are confident that his vision and leadership as COO will drive future success and growth for the company."
Spencer joined Kinney Drugs in 2010 and has more than 20 years of operations experience within the retail industry, the company said.
Kinney Drugs operates 94 drug stores in central and northern New York and Vermont.
The company has announced several personnel moves this year. In early February, Kinney promoted a pair of managers and shifted the roles and duties of other staff as part of a strategic realignment of its merchandising department. Category division manager Cheri Taylor was named to the newly created position of director of retail merchandising, and merchandise presentation supervisor Marc Baum was appointed as category manager for general merchandise.
And just weeks before, Kinney said it hired Jennifer Whalen as director of marketing and Steve Harris as inventory and replenishment manager, a newly created position.
