NACDS announces new officers, board members

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has named new officers, two new Executive Committee members and four new board members for the 2013-14 term.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has named new officers, two new Executive Committee members and four new board members for the 2013-14 term.

NACDS announced at its Annual Meeting here Monday that Robert Narveson, president and chief executive officer of Thrifty White Pharmacy, was elected as the new NACDS chairman, succeeding Walgreen Co. president and CEO Greg Wasson.

Rite Aid Corp. chairman, president and CEO John Standley was elected vice chairman, and Navarro Discount Pharmacy CEO Juan Ortiz was elected treasurer.

"We are pleased to welcome Bob Narveson as NACDS chairman of the board of directors," NACDS president and CEO Steve said in a statement. Serving as a board officer and chairman of the NACDS Political Action Committee, Bob has displayed an incredible commitment to community pharmacy and NACDS. We look forward to working with him in his new role as chairman of the board in the coming year."

In addition, the NACDS board elected Dr. John Agwunobi, senior vice president and president of health and wellness at Walmart Stores, and Ortiz as new Executive Committee members.

Four new board members were also elected: Randy Edeker, chairman and CEO of Hy-Vee Inc.; Dijuana Lewis, senior vice president of health care solutions for the health and wellness division of Walmart; Ken Martindale, chief operating officer of Rite Aid; and Martin Otto, chief merchant and chief financial officer at H-E-B.

Also announced Monday were five new board members for the NACDS Foundation.

Victor Curtis, senior vice president of pharmacy at Costco Wholesale Corp.; Jon Giacomin, president of U.S. Pharmaceutical Distribution at Cardinal Health Inc.; John Poulin, director of professional relations for Lilly USA; Todd Tillemans, president of customer development at Unilever; and Richard Tremonte, vice president of sales and marketing for the U.S. generics operating unit of Sandoz, will join the NACDS Foundation board for the 2013-14 term.

"We welcome Victor Curtis, Jon Giacomin, John Poulin, Todd Tillemans and Richard Tremonte to the NACDS Foundation Board," stated NACDS Foundation president Kathleen Jaeger. “The NACDS Foundation is committed to improving and advancing public health and wellness, utilizing opportunities in education, research and charitable activities. Our board is representative of leaders from all segments of community pharmacy — including retailers, pharmaceutical companies and consumer product businesses — and we look forward to working with them in the coming year to further implement the foundation’s vision and mission."

Anderson was elected to serve as NACDS Foundation chairman, and Jaeger will serve as president. David Fitzsimmons, NACDS senior vice president of finance and administration, will serve as treasurer, and Nicki Robins, NACDS assistant general counsel, will serve as secretary.
