BURLINGTON, Mass. — Publix Super Markets Inc. has joined the pharmacy network of Adheris, a provider of direct-to-patient medication adherence programs.
Adheris said Thursday that the addition of Publix, which has about 800 pharmacies in its more than 1,000 supermarkets in the Southeast, expands its network to more than 20,000 pharmacies.
The partnership brings prescription drug education and medication adherence programs to Publix pharmacy customers. Burlington, Mass.-based Adheris, a subsidiary of inVentiv Health Inc., works with pharmacy network members to address medication nonadherence through highly customized and educational refill-reminder programs to support prescription therapy.
"As a neighborhood pharmacy, we are uniquely positioned to provide information on health and wellness to our customers," Maria Brous, director of media and community relations at Publix, said in a statement. "As part of the patient-pharmacist relationship, we also want our customers to remain compliant with their medications to promote the benefits of healthy living. Our partnership with Adheris reinforces our commitment to overall customer service and education."
According to Adheris, the adherence programs can be implemented in a variety of forms, including letters, e-mail messages, newsletters, brochures and phone calls.
"Adheris applauds Publix Super Markets for addressing the challenging obstacle of medication nonadherence," stated Mike Roberts, vice president of pharmacy operations for Adheris. "We are very excited to work with Publix to deliver adherence support to their patients as we strongly believe patients — and the health care industry as a whole — benefit when multiple stakeholders come together to address this complex issue."
