CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. has launched its annual healthy skin care campaign with The Skin Cancer Foundation that includes free informational guides in all of its 4,700 stores as well as online.

The skin care guide is one of a series of free informational tools on health and wellness that Rite Aid offers each year.

The drug store chain said Monday that the effort also includes money-saving promotions on skin care products, a national tour providing free full-body skin cancer screenings by local dermatologists, lifestyle tips to help prevent skin cancer, and safe summer skin care advice from Rite Aid pharmacists.

During the campaign, which runs through July 26, 12-page, full-color skin care guides are available for free at any Rite Aid location or online at riteaid.com. And for the fourth year in a row, The Skin Cancer Foundation’s "Road to Healthy Skin Tour," presented by Aveeno and Rite Aid, is offering free private screenings with the help of local dermatologists. The tour stops at more than 60 Rite Aid stores in 19 states.

The skin care guide includes such information as how to practice daily sun safety via a five-point checklist; how to find a sunscreen that blocks both the sun’s ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays; how to choose the most appropriate sunscreen using The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation, including new "Daily Use" and "Active" seal categories; lesser-known skin tips such as how to guard against eyelid skin cancer, which accounts for 5% to 10% of all skin cancers, or how to keep skin hydrated by properly drying it after a warm shower; and discussing personalized skin care tips with a Rite Aid pharmacist, such as medications that increase sun sensitivity.

In addition, customers who belong to Rite Aid’s wellness+ customer rewards program and spend $50 on select skin care products can earn a $15 +UP Reward, which is printed on the bottom of their sales receipt, that is valid for a future Rite Aid purchase.

Consumers also can visit riteaid.com/skincare to view and print exclusive coupons through Rite Aid’s Video Values program, take an interactive quiz to determine skin type, seek personalized skin care tips through Ask Your Pharmacist, and access an interactive body map to assist in self exams.

Rite Aid noted that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 2 million diagnoses annually. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, about 90% of nonmelanoma skin cancers and 65% of potentially deadly melanoma cases are associated with exposure to UV radiation from the sun.

The skin care guide is one of a series of free informational tools that Rite Aid provides to promote health and wellness, covering such topics as oral health, diabetes, weight management, heart health and allergies.
