CAMP HILL, Pa. — With allergy season getting under way, Rite Aid Corp. is serving up free "Allergy Relief" guides in stores and alerting allergy sufferers to consult with its pharmacists for advice.
Rite Aid said Monday that the Allergy Relief guide, also available online at riteaid.com, can help the estimated 60 million Americans with allergies identify different airborne allergens and offer simple lifestyle tips to reduce exposure to allergens.
In addition, the guide provides tips on preventing reactions from food or contact allergies and contains a two-page chart listing eight categories of allergy symptoms and 12 categories of over-the-counter treatments.
The drug store chain also noted that Rite Aid pharmacists can offer personalized guidance to help patients prevent and anticipate allergy and asthma outbreaks, since many patients don’t realize that allergy treatments should begin before exposure, such as taking an antihistamine or using eye drops before mowing the lawn. Pharmacists also can flag potential drug interactions that could result from an OTC product interacting with unrelated medications, vitamins or herbal supplements.
Rite Aid said its pharmacists also are available online at www.riteaid.com/health/ by clicking on the allergy tab, through which visitors can e-mail allergy questions for answers during business hours and members of Rite Aid’s wellness+ customer rewards program can chat online about allergies 24×7. Site visitors, too, can sign up for free e-mail or cell phone alerts on current pollen conditions and forecasts through Pollen.com or read about topics including allergies in the home, plant allergies or the science behind allergies.
The retailer also said wellness+ members can earn one $5 +UP Reward once they accumulate $25 of select allergy purchases through May 28. Separately, Rite Aid’s Allergy Rewards Program offers wellness+ members a $20 Rite Aid gift certificate for every $75 spent on Zyrtec and/or Benadryl. The offer runs through Rite Aid’s Single Check Rebate program for all of 2011. More allergy coupons also are available at riteaid.com.
