TORONTO — Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. is joining the Canadian Red Cross in supporting earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan with an online donation program.
The Canadian drug store chain said Thursday that through April 21, Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix customers and employees will be able to donate their Shoppers Optimum points online at www.shoppersdrugmart.ca or www.pharmaprix.ca.
In addition, Shoppers Drug Mart and its associate-owners will match the savings reward value of the points donated with its own cash donation, up to a combined amount of $150,000.
"On behalf of our associate-owners and employees, we extend our deepest sympathy to those affected by this terrible tragedy," Mary-Alice Vuicic, chief administrative officer and executive vice president at Shoppers Drug Mart, said in a statment. "It is important for everyone to come together to do what they can to assist the victims of this disaster. We hope that the support we are offering will help the Canadian Red Cross bring relief and humanitarian aid to the people of Japan."
