JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. has introduced a multiplatform smartphone application for pharmacy customers.

The Southeast supermarket chain said Thursday that the Winn-Dixie Pharmacy App enables mobile users to better manage their prescriptions and locate the nearest Winn-Dixie Pharmacy with their iPhone, Android or Blackberry smartphones.

Winn-Dixie’s pharmacy mobile app lets customers track the status of refills.

"This new app will make our guests’ busy lives easier, allowing them to take better control of their health directly from their mobile device," Mary Kellmanson, Winn-Dixie’s group vice president of marketing, said in a statement.

"Using the new app will help guests view and reorder prescriptions, receive alerts when their prescription is ready, set reminders to take their medications and remind them of dosage, and even remind them to schedule a doctor’s appointment," Kellmanson added.

The app is available as a free download through the iTunes App Store, the Android Market, Blackberry App World or links on Winn-Dixie’s website.

Winn-Dixie, which has 380 pharmacies in its approximately 480 grocery stores, said the new app and its mobile website, https://m.winndixierx.com, operate on a secure network created by San Francisco-based mscripts.

The app supports interactive SMS messaging, e-mail, push notifications and mobile calendar integration. The tool also enables Winn-Dixie pharmacy customers to track refill status plus manage doctor information and other key health data.

"The Winn-Dixie Pharmacy App is all about improving the relationship between the pharmacy and the patient, reducing or eliminating wait times, and enabling the pharmacists to spend more time on important things — like listening to patient questions and giving health advice," stated Mark Cullen, chief executive officer of mscripts. "Winn-Dixie guests can refill prescriptions with a touch of a button, wherever they are. The result is a better shopping experience and better health management."
