JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. has begun offering Fluzone Intradermal flu vaccinations at its in-store pharmacies.
The Southeast food and drug retailer said late Tuesday that the Fluzone Intradermal flu vaccination is administered just below the skin and has a microneedle that’s 90% smaller than regular needles and is approved for people ages 18 to 64.
Shoppers using their Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card can get the intradermal vaccine at a discounted rate of $29.99.
"We are constantly looking for ways to meet and exceed our guests’ expectations and offering a variety of administrations for the seasonal flu vaccine is just another way for us to properly serve our guests," John Fegan, Winn-Dixie’s vice president of pharmacy, said in a statement. "Our guests’ health and wellness is our primary concern, and being at the forefront with new innovations helps us to provide these services to our neighborhoods."
Winn-Dixie noted that its pharmacies still offer a regular flu shot approved for people age 3 years and older as well as a high-dose flu shot approved and recommended for those age 65 and older on a walk-in basis.
The supermarket chain operates 480 stores, including about 380 in-store pharmacies, in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi.
