Aurobindo cleared to market Effient generic

Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. has gained approval from the Food and Drug Administration for prasugrel tablets, an antiplatelet blood thinner, in dosages of 5 mg and 10 mg. Aurobindo said Thursday that its prasugrel product is a generic version of Effient tablets (5 mg and 10 mg) from Eli Lilly and Co.

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. — Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. has gained approval from the Food and Drug Administration for prasugrel tablets, an antiplatelet blood thinner, in dosages of 5 mg and 10 mg.

Aurobindo said Thursday that its prasugrel product is a generic version of Effient tablets (5 mg and 10 mg) from Eli Lilly and Co.

Prasugrel tablets are indicated to reduce the risk of thrombotic cardiovascular events, or blood clots, in people with acute coronary syndrome who are undergoing a procedure after a recent heart attack or stroke, as well as in people with certain heart or blood vessel disorders.

U.S. sales of prasugrel tablets total approximately $685.3 million for the 12 months through August, according to QuintilesIMS data reported by Aurobindo.
