WASHINGTON — A bipartisan group of lawmakers has officially re-established the Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus for the 119th Congress, aiming to elevate legislative dialogue around supplement education, regulation, and access. The caucus will be co-chaired by Rep. Mike Kennedy, M.D. (R-UT-3), and Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX-33) and serve as a platform for members of Congress to engage with scientific experts, healthcare professionals, and industry leaders on the evolving role of dietary supplements in public health.
Four major trade groups, the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), and United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA), announced their unified support for the initiative, citing the need for informed and balanced policymaking.
As a formally registered Congressional Member Organization (CMO), the caucus will host nonpartisan educational briefings, beginning with its first session on July 23, 2025. Topics will include the science behind supplements, their regulatory framework, and their potential to reduce healthcare costs and improve wellness.
In their formal caucus registration with the House Committee on Administration, Reps. Kennedy and Veasey emphasized the group’s focus on promoting public awareness, supporting research into supplements’ health benefits, and reducing regulatory barriers. Policy priorities for the 119th Congress are expected to include:
- Modernizing the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA)
- Expanding FSA and HSA eligibility to include dietary supplements
- Boosting FDA resources for oversight and enforcement
“Utah has played a major role in the dietary supplement industry, and that leadership deserves to be represented in Congress,” said Rep. Kennedy. “This caucus is a way to support thoughtful discussion around health while ensuring people have the freedom and information they need to make choices that work for them—without being burdened by unnecessary regulatory hurdles.”
Rep. Marc Veasey added, “The Dietary Supplement Caucus provides a unique opportunity for bipartisan cooperation on issues that matter to millions of Americans. From public education to regulatory transparency, this forum will help Congress engage more meaningfully with an industry that touches households across the country.”
