NEWARK, Del. — The global postbiotic supplements market is expected to more than double over the next decade as consumers and manufacturers place greater emphasis on gut health, immune support and microbiome-based wellness, according to a new report from Future Market Insights.
The market is valued at $0.8 billion in 2026 and is forecast to reach $2.0 billion by 2036, representing a compound annual growth rate of 9.1% during the period.
Unlike probiotics, which rely on live microorganisms, postbiotics are derived from microbial fermentation and include bioactive compounds such as metabolites and cell components. FMI said the category is gaining traction because of its stability, longer shelf life and flexibility across supplement and functional nutrition formats.
Demand is being driven by rising awareness of gut microbiome health, increased preventive health spending and growing consumer interest in targeted dietary solutions. Powder-based formats are expected to account for 30% of the form segment in 2026, while gut health positioning is projected to represent 28% of the health-positioning segment.
“The postbiotic supplements market is shifting toward science-backed wellness solutions as consumers and manufacturers focus on targeted gut health, immune support, and functional nutrition. Companies that strengthen clinical validation, improve formulation stability, and develop convenient delivery formats are expected to gain a competitive advantage in the evolving supplements landscape,” said Nandini Roy Choudhury, principal consultant for food and beverage at FMI.
North America and Europe remain important markets because of established supplement adoption and strong consumer interest in functional nutrition, FMI said. Asia-Pacific is also emerging as a major growth region, with India projected to be the fastest-growing country market at a 10% CAGR through 2036.
The report said manufacturers are investing in fermentation technology, proprietary blends and new delivery formats, including capsules, powders, beverages and functional foods. Key companies covered in the report include ADM, dsm-firmenich, IFF Health Sciences, Lallemand Health Solutions, Kerry Group, Morinaga Milk Industry Co. and Sabinsa Corp.
